Two-time world champion Kento Momota is aiming for a second straight Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title in Indonesia after winning his first since a career-threatening car crash.

The Japanese is the top seed in the men's singles event at the Indonesia Open, which begins tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (November 28).

Momota will compete at the BWF Super 1000-level tournament in Bali having lifted the Indonesia Masters trophy yesterday.

It was a notable victory for Momota, who sustained multiple laceration wounds to his face, a fractured nose and a broken eye socket in a car accident in January 2020 following the Malaysia Masters.

The 27-year-old, knocked out of the men's singles event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo at the group stage, admitted he was "exhausted" after his Indonesia Masters triumph but insisted he will be raring to go for the Open.

Momota begins his bid for a second consecutive World Tour title against India's Lakshya Sen tomorrow.

South Korea’s An Se-young is among the field for the women's singles event at the Indonesia Open having won the Masters.

It was her first BWF World Tour title since she topped the podium at the Gwangju Korea Masters in 2019.

World bronze medallist Akane Yamaguchi of Japan is the top seed in the women's draw.

The tournament offers a total prize fund of $850,000 (£633,000/€754,000).
