Madeleine Egle of Austria demonstrated her Olympic medal credentials with victory on the Beijing 2022 track as she got her Luge World Cup season off to a winning start.

The 23-year-old, who claimed mixed team bronze at Pyeongchang 2018, produced two superb runs at Yanqing National Sliding Centre - which will be used at next year's Winter Olympics.

Egle registered a winning time of 1min 58.822sec after runs of 59.390sec and 59.432.

She defeated world champion Julia Taubitz of Germany who finished second with 1:58.928.

Austria's Lisa Schulte completed the podium after taking third spot with 1:59.350.

Johannes Ludwig led a German one-two-three yesterday as he got the better of Felix Loch and Max Langenhan in the men’s event.

The 35-year-old completed the two runs in a combined time of 1:54.597 as he defeated seven-time overall World Cup winner Loch by almost a second.

Loch claimed silver with 1:55.451 as Langenhan came third with 1:55.455.

"I'm happy with my performance at the start and in the track," Ludwig said.

"Overall I had very few mistakes in it."

The next leg of the Luge World Cup is scheduled to be held in Sochi in Russia from November 27 to 28.

This leg doubled up as a Beijing 2022 test event.
