Dar es Salaam is hosting a two-day clinic for aspiring blind baseball players as Tanzania's edges closer to assembling its first team in the sport.

The Italian Association Baseball for the Blind (AIBxC) envoy coaches Giacomo Reina and Michele Bianchi have travelled to the capital for the session aimed at boys and girls who want to take part in baseball for the blind.

The AIBxC is one of the world's leading baseball for the blind organisations, and has previously worked with the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) to introduce the sport in Hungary.

Information on how to use kit correctly will feature as part of the clinic, and officials from the Tanzania Baseball and Softball Association (TaBSA) will be present, as well as physical education teachers from the Dar Es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE).

This will further the development of baseball for the blind in Tanzania, which began in December 2020 when the TaBSA took part in an online introductory course.

Since then, the WBSC member has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DUCE, which was agreed in February 2021.

This had resulted in the introduction of baseball for the blind to special education athletes at the institution.

The WBSC provided further support for Tanzania's ambitions in the sport in April and May this year.

Its Paralympic Commission held a seminar, before the global governing body donated a starter kit, which included basic tools required for baseball for the blind such as a sound base, clappers and balls, to DUCE and the TaBSA.

An introductory course in baseball for the blind has been added to the WBSC Academy, which serves as its e-learning platform.
