Italy's 2019 Nacra 17 world champions Vittorio Bissaro and Maelle Frascari moved to the top of the standings on the second day of the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships at the Barcelo Mussanah Resort in Oman.

After a mixed first day, Bissaro and Frascari finished second in the first race of today's sailing - the fourth at the World Championships - and followed it up with a fourth-placed finish and a victory in the sixth race.

That leaves them on 16 points with one-third of the races complete.

Paul Kohlhoff and Alicia Stuhlemmer of Germany are aiming to build on a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

After struggling in the first race of the day, the pair then finished third and second to finish on 18.

That tally is matched by Britain's Tokyo 2020 silver medallists and defending world champions John Gimson and Anna Burnet, who secured fourth and fifth place in the fourth and fifth races of the Championships.

The overnight leaders, Tim Mourniac and Lou Berthomieu of France, slipped to fourth, notching double digits followed by an eighth and fourth for a total of 20.

Finland's Sinem Kurtbay and Akseli Keskinen forced themselves into contention by winning the first two races of the day, and are now in fifth place with 24.

In the 49erFX fleet, Odile van Aanholt and Elise Ruyter of The Netherlands climbed from fifth place into a five-point lead at the top after scoring three, two and seven on a consistent day of sailing to finish on 15.

Norway's Helene Næss and Marie Rønningen remain second on 20, recording a win in the fifth race of the competition, either side of a fifth and sixth-place finish on day two.

Ronja Grönblom and Veera Hokka of Finland held the lead after the first three races but now occupy third place.

They finished 15th in the first race of the day but recovered by placing ninth and fourth to finish on 24.

Back-to-back Olympic champions Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze of Brazil also have 24, recording a six, three and five on the second day.

Australia's Otto Henry and Miles Davey lead the way after six qualifying races in the 49er fleet.

They finished second in the first race of the day and fifth in the last to move onto 17, while an impressive day from Jakob Meggendorfer and Andreas Spranger of Germany propelled themselves into second on the same number of points by finishing the day with a pair of second-place finishes.

Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove of Ireland were 14th overnight, but as they did yesterday, they won the final race of the day to move up to third place.

A third and fifth-place finish earlier in the afternoon puts them on 20, level with Germany's Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf.

Leading after day one, Britain's Jack Hawkins and Chris Tomas slipped to eighth with two double digits scores.

Qualification in the 49er fleet concludes tomorrow in Mussanah, with the Championships running until Sunday (November 21).
