The mayor of Ciudad Jardín, Macarena Ripamonti, met with the executive director of the Games, Felipe De Pablo, to formalise the relationship.

De Pablo confirmed that the football competition is scheduled to take place in Viña del Mar.

"I am grateful to the work teams, who have raised the Santiago 2023 Games with great impetus and under many adversities," Ripamonti said.

"We are happy that one of the principles of this great event is decentralisation and now our commune becomes the protagonist of a scenario that is highly desired by our community."

The Games' mascot, Fiu, joined the corporation as it travelled to the Valparaíso Region's eponymous capital to meet Mayor Jorge Sharp.

"These Games are an opportunity for Valparaíso to promote sports and recreation," said Sharp.

"We have made all the services available so that these activities result in the best possible way, we will be working together with Santiago 2023 to establish the importance of this event among our community.

The delegation then made its way to Algarrobo where its Mayor, José Luis Yáñez, welcomed them.

"For us it is a great satisfaction to be able to come to the Valparaíso Region and hold important working groups with three of the important sub-branches," De Pablo added.

"And it is good to agree that it is not only about high performance, but also about community work to make Santiago 2023 recognisable."

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are set to run from October 20 to November 5 in 2023, with 41 nations taking part across 41 sports.

The Parapan American Games is then due to take place from November 17 to 25 with 31 countries and 23 sports on the programme.
