Four upcoming hosts presented their plans on the third day of the virtual meeting.

Lake Placid 2023 will succeed Swiss city Lucerne as hosts of the FISU Winter World University Games, with the event taking place from January 12 to 22.

Lake Placid 2023 director of internal operations Ashley Walden said the organisation has accelerated planning and promotion for the event, with activity increased on social media and via their website.

Upcoming milestones will include the unveiling of the Games mascot and test events.

These include the 2022 US Olympic trials in ski jumping and Nordic combined and the 2022 FISU Championships in speed skating and beach volleyball.

The Games will feature 86 medal events across 12 sports, with Lake Placid 2023 planning to use three zones.

Organisers confirmed "Save Winter" as the theme of the FISU World Conference, which will take place alongside the Games from January 14 to 16 in 2023.

The event aims to highlight the intersection of climate change and winter sport, with weather, water, energy, food, and forest among items expected to be discussed.

Yekaterinburg 2023 also highlighted climate in their presentation, with the Russian city vowing to deliver a zero carbon footprint event when it hosts the FISU Summer World University Games.

Over 10,000 athletes from 150 countries are expected to compete in the Games, which features 18 sports.

Yekaterinburg 2023 say several countries will participate in cultural competitions alongside the Games, across art, dance and music.

A five-part Torch will be lit in Turin, the birthplace of the Games, with Yekaterinburg 2023 planning to send one part to each of the five continents.

This will see five Torch Relays held across 23 cities globally, as well as in Russia, before reuniting at the Opening Ceremony.

The Games are set to take place from August 8 to 19.

Turin and Rhine-Ruhr also gave their first presentations to the FISU General Assembly, after being awarded World University Games earlier this year.

Turin 2025 is set to see the Winter World University Games return to the city after it was last held there in 2007.

The 2006 Winter Olympics were also held in Turin.

The Italian city explained its plans to host events across the three regions, with Bardonecchia, Pragelato and Turin itself welcoming competitions.

Rhine-Ruhr 2025 plans to host the Summer World University Games across five cities in the region, with 95 per cent of venues already in place.

Organisers have promised a compact Games, vowing to show that a metropolitan region can host a successful multi-sport event.
