Three-time Paralympic ice hockey champion Steve Cash is retiring from the sport.

The goaltender helped the United States win gold medals at the Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Paralympic Games.

Cash also won a bronze medal at Turin 2006.

"It has been quite the journey and an honour to represent my country," Cash, who is now 32, said. 

"I want to thank all of team mates throughout the years along with the supporters I have gained along the way. 

"You guys have made the journey what it is."

Cash is additionally a five-time world champion, and was in the US side which, earlier this year, became the first to retain the Para Ice Hockey World Championship crown.

Cash won eight World Championship medals in all - golds in 2021, 2019, 2015, 2012 and 2009, silvers in 2013 and 2017, plus a 2008 bronze.

The pinnacle of Cash's career was perhaps Vancouver 2010, where he recorded five shutouts and did not concede a single goal en route to the gold medal.
