Pakistan claimed a famous victory over arch rivals India at the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup, thrashing their opponents by ten wickets on a historic night at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Put in to bat, India found themselves 31-3 inside the powerplay in the opening match in Group Two, and went on to finish on 151-7 off their 20 overs with captain Virat Kohli top scoring with 57.

Shaheen Afridi was Pakistan’s top bowler taking 3-31 in what was the sides first Twenty20 match since the 2016 edition of this tournament.

In reply, Pakistan chased down their target with 13 balls to spare without losing any wickets - inflicting a first ever defeat by a ten wicket margin on India in Twenty20 internationals.

Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan top scored with 79 off 55 balls, with captain Babar Azam making 68 off 52 deliveries in an unbroken opening stand.

In the day’s earlier contest in Group One, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by five wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium thanks to an unbeaten 80 from Charith Asalanka.

In the contest between two sides that progressed from the first phase of the competition, Bangladesh scored 171-4 off their 20 overs thanks to 62 from Mohammad Naim and an unbeaten 57 off 37 balls from Mushfiqur Rahim.

Asalanka impressed scoring 80 runs off 49 balls featuring five fours and five sixes, with Bhanuka Rajapaksa scoring 53 off 31 on his 30th birthday.

Asalanka and Rajapaksa were both dropped on the boundary by Liton Das on the boundary during a partnership that turned the game in Sri Lanka’s favour, as they won by five wickets with seven balls remaining.

Tomorrow’s match in Sharjah sees Scotland, who progressed from the first phase of the competition, taking on Afghanistan in Sharjah as Group Two continues.
