In his semi-final, world number 26 Norrie dictated play from the baseline throughout and took advantage of his Bulgarian opponent Grigor Dimitrov's draining victories against top seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia and Poland's world number 12 Hubert Hurkacz, which both went the distance.

Norrie found a break on four of Dimitrov's first five service games across the two sets as he triumphed 6-2, 6-4.

"It was the biggest match of my career, following on from yesterday, which was the biggest match," the Briton claimed.

"There was even more pressure today.

"I came out and played really physical.

"Grigor was maybe a little tired from the other matches, but he fought hard and made it physical at the start of the second set, which wasn't easy."

This will be Norrie's sixth final of the year on the ATP Tour, but his first at an event of this stature.

He lost to Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the Queen's Club Championships 500 Series final in June, with his first title on the Tour coming in the 250 Series Los Cabos Open a month later.

Standing in Norrie's way at the Indian Wells is Basilashvili, who followed up a three-set victory against Greek second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals by knocking host the United States' last representative Taylor Fritz.

Fritz won a deciding tiebreak against third seed Alexander Zverev of Germany in the last eight and forced Basilashvili to face three set points and seven break points in the first set of the semi-final, but his opponent saved them all before winning the tiebreak 7-5.

Both players continued to hold serve in a closely-fought contest until Basilashvili found the breakthrough in the sixth game of the second set to take a 4-2 lead and converted a match point at the fourth time of asking in the final game to go through 7-6, 6-3.

Basilashvili has won three 500 Series events during his career and claimed two victories at 250 Series tournaments in the Qatar Open and Bavarian Championships this year, but this would be his biggest title to date.

Tomorrow sees Victoria Azarenka look to become the first woman ever to win the Indian Wells Masters three times as she plays her singles final against Spain's Paula Badosa , followed by Norrie's match against Basilashvili.
