This year's World Para Powerlifting Championships have been moved from Batumi to Georgia's capital Tbilisi.

World Para Powerlifting said that it and the local Organising Committee had decided to move the event to Tbilisi because of its superior transport links, which would allow more athletes to compete.

Junior and senior competition is scheduled to take place between November 27 and December 5 this year.

Tbilisi staged a World Para Powerlifting World Cup for the first time in May, with 25 nations represented.

It will be the first European city to host the World Para Powerlifting Championships since 1994, when Uppsala in Sweden was the venue.

Eger in Hungary was the original 2021 host, before Georgia stepped in as a replacement in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kazakhstan's capital Nur-Sultan staged the 2019 World Championships.

Georgia sent two powerlifters to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where China won seven of the 20 gold medals on offer.
