The former chief executive of the British Olympic Association, Simon Clegg has been appointed as executive chairman of skydiving brand Swoop.

Swoop, which is officially recognised by the World Air Sports Federation (FAI) and owned by Air Sports Group (ASG), safely brings skydiving into city centres.

"I am hugely excited about the Swoop brand," said Clegg.

"Swoop has the ability to engage fans and spectators across the world in a new fast-moving and dynamic format.

"The previous test events clearly established an insatiable appetite, enabling us to build and commercialise a truly global brand and bring to market a new and exciting sports and entertainment product."

Clegg joined the BOA in 1989 and managed British athletes at 12 Summer and Winter Olympic Games, including six as Chef de Mission.

The 62-year-old has also been chief executive of Ipswich Town Football Club and chief operating officer of the Baku 2015 European Games.

"I am delighted to welcome Simon to the ASG family and to Swoop in particular," said George Stribling, chief executive of ASG.

"We are excited that someone of Simon’s international standing, global experience and extensive network across the world of sport and business is joining us to take Swoop to the next level.

"His empathy with our sport as a former parachutist brings further credibility to his association and his leadership of our brand."

In September, Swoop was awarded the exclusive naming rights for the Freestyle FAI World Championship in a bid to globalise the brand.
