Nineteen-year-old Farida Mohamed produced the biggest shock of round two at the Egyptian Open in Cairo, knocking out fifth seed Sarah-Jane Perry.

The result is a repeat of what happened at the 2020 edition of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Platinum tournament, when the young Egyptian also beat Perry in round two.

Four games were needed this year rather than three, but world number 34 Mohamed held her nerve to win 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10.

Another English opponent, Lucy Turmel, awaits in the third round after a straight-games victory over Swiss Cindy Merlo.

The seven other women's seeds were all victorious at New Giza Sporting Club.

Top seed and world champion Nour El Sherbini beat Wales' Emily Whitlock 11-7, 12-10, 11-5, while second seed Nouran Gohar defeated Hollie Naughton 11-7, 11-3, 11-5.

El Sherbini and Gohar are both Egyptian and met in last year's final, won by El Sherbini.

Three of the top four men's seeds went through in straight games, but he seventh and eighth seeds both exited the competition.

Fares Dessouky was 2-1 ahead in games versus the American Shahjahan Khan, but the Egyptian seventh seed was forced to retire through injury when trailing 1-4 in the fourth.

Meanwhile Egypt's eighth seed Mostafa Asal was unceremonious dumped out by the Malaysian Eain Yow Ng, who won 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.

Top seed Mohamed ElShorbagy from Egypt beat France's Baptiste Masoti 11-7, 11-8, 11-8; second seed Ali Farag brushed aside Gregoire Marche 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 in another Egypt-versus-France match.
