Hosts Russia won more than half of the sambo gold medals at the Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Countries in Kazan.

Nine of the sport's 14 divisions were won by Russians, including five of the seven weight categories for women.

Margarita Barneva, Ekaterina Tsybert, Evgenia Chiresh, Ekaterina Doroshenko and Elena Allenova were the Russian junior women to earn gold medals. 

Russia also won two sambo silver medals and a pair of bronzes.

Azerbaijan collected three gold medals, with Belarus and Uzbekistan earning one each.

Medals were also awarded in muaythai and shooing disciplines on day six of the first CIS Games.

Russia won two shotgun gold medals and one with air rifles, while Kazakhstan won a gold medal in either shooting discipline.

Muaythai bronze medals were the only ones won today, with the sport's finals scheduled tomorrow.

The Games of the CIS Countries are open to athletes aged 23 and younger.
