The Russian far eastern city of Khabarovsk played host to a training camp organised by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) earlier this month.

The three-week camp was held from July 3 to 23, and featured boxers from 10 countries - Algeria, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jordan, Mauritius, Morocco, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

It was arranged to assist those attending with their preparations for upcoming international competitions, with many unable to compete in training camps at home because of COVID-19 restrictions.

"AIBA is a home for boxers," said its President Umar Kremlev.

"Our main task is to help them to compete at the highest level.

"Because of that we organised the training camps to provide full support for our boxers."

The Botswanan coach Lechedzani Luza commented in a video released by AIBA through Twitter: "Khabarovsk has been really nice.

"First of all the weather has been really nice.

"And the training has been excellent with so many countries with sparring sessions.

"The hospitality of the Russian people has also been great, they’ve been really welcoming and friendly."

Khabarovsk had previously hosted the Konstantin Korotkov Memorial international boxing tournament.

AIBA has been suspended as the sport’s governing body by the International Olympic Committee since 2019, meaning the boxing competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been organised by an IOC Boxing Task Force.

Kremlev was elected as President in 2020 with a vow to restore its Olympic status.
