Fiji made it back-to-back men's rugby sevens gold medals with a 27-12 victory over an error-strewn New Zealand side at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics here.

Jiuta Wainiqolo, Meli Derenalagi, Sireli Maqala and Asaeli Tuivuaka crossed as they secured the country's second Olympic gold medal in its history following the team's success at Rio 2016.

Fiji had Semi Radradra - regarded as one of the world’s best players - at their disposal having arrived late in Tokyo but chose not to use him as they powered to victory at the Tokyo Stadium.

Waisea Nacuqu wrapped up the win with a last-gasp drop goal as New Zealand were made to pay for their mistakes.

The first of those errors came inside the opening minute as the All Black Sevens coughed up the ball inside their own half, allowing Fiji the chance to strike.

The ball was then moved out wide to Derenalagi who powered over in the corner for an unconverted score.

Another New Zealand mistake gifted Fiji a second try as Andrew Knewstubb let the ball slip through his grasp over the try-line, providing Maqala with the opportunity to simply apply the finishing touch.

Napolioni Bolaca converted to move his side 12-0 in front.

Despite the double blow, New Zealand hit straight back as Scott Curry raced over in the corner.

Knewstubb failed to land the touchline conversion, leaving New Zealand trailing 12-5.

After profiting from New Zealand errors for the first two tries, Fiji then produced an individual moment of brilliance to score a third with one minute left of the first half.

Wainiqolo gathered the ball on the left before outpacing and outpowering New Zealand's defence to touch down in the corner.

Napolioni Bolaca converted to give Fiji a 19-5 advantage.

New Zealand had the final say in the first half when Sione Molia powered through the heart of Fiji's defence before going over under the posts as Knewstubb added the simple extras, cutting the deficit to 19-12.

Needing a converted try to get back on level terms, New Zealand started the second half with plenty of intent as they kept Fiji pinned in their own half.

But a loose lineout allowed Fiji to counter as they moved the ball quickly, looking to find a route through.

Molia produced a superb try-saving tap-tackle but Fiji attacked once again and scored with Tuivuaka going over to make it 24-12 with one minute left.

Fiji remained on the attack and completed the triumph with Nacuqu’s drop goal going over off the post.

Argentina clinched the bronze medal with a 17-12 triumph against Rio 2016 silver medallists Britain.

Marcos Moneta, Lautaro Bazan Velez and Ignacio Mendy scored as Argentina overcame the Rio 2016 silver medallists.

Britain quickly went on the front foot with Dan Norton making inroads down the left.

The ball was then switched to the opposite flank for Ben Harris who exposed space out wide to touch down in the opening minute. Dan Bibby missed the conversion.

But Argentina then scored two tries in quick succession to take the lead with Moneta catching Britain napping as he nipped around the blindside to score with ease.

Moments later, Bazan Velez then wriggled free of Norton to score Argentina's second.

Santiago Mare converted the second of those to give Argentina a 12-5 advantage at half-time.

Argentina continued to pose a threat after the break with Britain forced into some desperate defending.

Britain then crossed for their second try when Ben Harris managed to spin out of a tackle and released the ball for Ollie Lindsay-Hague to score. Dan Bibby converted to level the scores at 12-12.

But Argentina responded when Mendy produced a superb solo run to touch down.

Mare added the extras to secure victory.
