The bidding window for the 2025 European Universities Championships (EUC) has begun, with potential hosts asked to submit applications before the December deadline.

EUC events are university sports competitions governed by the European University Sports Association, and take place on a biennial basis.

The very first UEC events took place in 2001, at first being held annually before the introduction of the European Universities Games, which are held every even-numbered year, with UEC events instead held every odd-numbered year.

Bidding is available for 17 events in all - two multi-sport championship events and 15 single-sport competitions.

The European Universities Combat Championships will feature judo, karate, kickboxing and taekwondo.

Also up for grabs is the European Universities Beach Championships - comprised of beach handball and beach volleyball.

The single-sport events are in 3x3 basketball, badminton, basketball, chess, football, futsal, golf, handball, orienteering, rowing, rugby sevens, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

The preliminary list of the EUC 2023 host cities has been decided, with Malaga in Spain to host the Beach Championships, Zagreb in Croatia to stage the Combat Championships and cities from eight different countries due to hold tournaments for 14 other sports.

In 2019 a total of 21 different sports were included in the EUC sports programme, taking place across 14 host cities with more than 5,000 participants involved.

Meanwhile, the bidding window for the 2026 European Universities Games is still open, with the submission deadline September 30.
