Emiliano Martinez saved three penalties as Argentina overcame Colombia on spot-kicks to set up a mouth-watering Copa América final versus Brazil.

Argentina took a seventh-minute lead at the Estádio Nacional de Brasília through Lautaro Martínez, the 23-year-old converting from Lionel Messi's cutback.

Yet Colombia would end the game with more possession and more shots, and drew level when Luis Díaz converted from a tight angle.

With the score 1-1 after 90 minutes, the match headed to penalties, where Colombia came unstuck despite having the advantage of taking first.

Yerry Mina, Davinson Sánchez and Edwin Cardona all saw their penalties saved by Martinez.

Argentina won the shoot-out 3-2, with Martínez, Messi and Leandro Paredes all converting and there no need for Argentina to take their fifth spot-kick.

A blockbuster final between Argentina and hosts Brazil is now in store and set to be played at the Maracanã Stadium on Saturday (July 10).

While Brazil are the defending champions, Argentina have not won the Copa América since 1993.

This final will offer Messi - seen by many as the greatest player of all time - a super chance to win a first major international tournament.

Messi is the Copa América's top scorer with four goals.
