Defending men's champions Ukraine were in great form, leading through all but one of their bouts against 2019 bronze medallists RPC.

Paralympic champions Andrii Demchuk and Anton Datsko joined forces with Artem Manko to stretch ahead of the RPC team of Roman Fedyaev, Maxim Shaburov and Aleksandr Kurzin.

Demchuk landed the deciding blow against Shaburov to secure the title for Ukraine.

Despite missing out to Ukraine in the semi-final, Greece beat Italy to take the final podium place. The trio of Rio 2016 silver medallists Panagiotis Triantafyllou, Gerasimos Pylarinos-Markantonatos and Vasileios Ntounis just edged their Italian opponents by three hits.

After Ukraine’s success yesterday, they had to settle for second place today as Georgia came out on top in the women’s event.

The gold medal match was a close affair, with the lead changing five times during the clash between Georgia’s Gvantsa Zadishvili, Nino Tibiashvili and Irma Khetsuriani and Ukraine’s Natalia Morkvych, Yevheniia Breus and Olena Fedota.

Ukraine regained the lead by just one point heading into the final round.

Morkvych carved out the narrow edge against Zadishvili, handing over responsibility to maintain the lead to Breus.

But 2019 world silver medallists Georgia refused to give in as Tibiashvili drew the scores level once again at 43-43 before edging ahead and then securing the winning point.

Hosts Poland did not leave empty handed, securing bronze thanks to the efforts of Kinga Drozdz, Patrycja Hareza, Marta Fidrych and Jadwiga Pacek.

Ukraine enjoyed more success courtesy of Serhii Shavkun who retained his epee title in the men’s category C, grabbing his third consecutive world gold in the discipline.

Shavkun faced RPC’s Alexander Logutenko in the final, easing past him 15-7.

Logutenko’s teammate Dmitry Belyaev picked up his fourth world medal with bronze, maintaining his 100 per cent podium record.

Dmitrijs Valainis claimed the other bronze on offer.

Italy’s Nora Consuelo claimed gold in the unofficial women’s epee category C after a clash with Poland’s debutant Izabela Solpalska Rybak.

Georgia’s Diana Jishiashvili was third.

Shavkun made it two golds out of two in the men’s sabre category C for Ukraine.

Italy’s Leonardo Rigo took second after overcoming Latvian defending silver medallist Valainis for a place in the final.

Valainis added to his epee bronze from the day before while Logutenko also doubled-up on podium finishes.

Italy’s Nora Consuelo claimed gold in the women’s unofficial sabre category C, ahead of Georgia’s Diana Jishiashvili.
