Kim Kardashian West's company Skims has been announced as the official underwear designer of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

The company is set to provide loungewear to female athletes representing the US at next month’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The company was founded in 2019.

Reality television star Kardashian West confirmed the news in a post on Instagram.

She noted the role of the Olympic Games in her life through Caitlyn Jenner, who as Bruce Jenner won men’s decathlon gold at Montreal 1976.

"Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every single detail about the Olympics from my stepdad," Kardashian West wrote.

"As I would watch the athletes compete, I would grow to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied.

"I travelled w my stepdad and family to all different cities for the Olympic trials, the Olympics and track meets of @caitlynjenner’s and at every stop I would buy an Olympic t-shirt as a souvenir.

"When I received the call inviting Skims to be a part of @TeamUSA, every moment I’ve spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle.

"I am honored to announce that @skims is designing the official team USA undergarments, pajamas and lounge wear for the athletes this year in Tokyo and the same pieces will be available in a capsule collection at SKIMS.COM."

Five athletes have modelled official clothing in the announcement, including two-time Women’s World Cup winner and London 2012 Olympic football gold medallist Alex Morgan.

Reigning women’s 400m hurdles Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad, basketball player A'ja Wilson, swimmer Haley Anderson and Paralympic sprinter Scout Bassett also participated.

The Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8.

The Paralympics are then due to follow from August 24 to September 5.
