World ParaVolley has launched an online learning system aimed at increasing knowledge about the sport and allowing more access to technical education.

Classification and coaching courses are being offered initially as part of a pilot programme on E-ParaVolley, which World Para Volley hopes will become part of its existing certification pathway.

More than 90 applicants from all four World ParaVolley zones applied to take part in the initial courses, according to the governing body.

It also credited two International Paralympic Committee grants with making the programme possible.

"We were extremely pleased with the range of applicants that responded to the expression of interest," said World ParaVolley general manager Phil Allen.

"Unfortunately, not all those that replied will be able to participate in this initial wave of courses as there is limited capacity, but now we have a very good list of names to draw from for upcoming courses, which bodes well for the future."

It is hoped that the system - said to be based on principles of active blended learning and sustained education - will be open to all in the future.
