Lee Ming-fai was crowned as Hong Kong's first singles champion in teqball and will now hope to compete at the Asian Beach Games.

Lee defeated Wong Chun-kit in the final of the Hong Kong Challenge Cup at MacPherson Stadium.

The Hong Kong Teqball Association organised the competition as it looks to prepare a team for this year's rescheduled Asian Beach Games in Sanya.

Teqball is due to makes its debut as a medal sport at the Games in the Chinese city, which have already been postponed twice because of the coronavirus crisis.

New dates have yet to be confirmed.

Next year's Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand are also set to feature teqball as a demonstration sport.

Lee's victory earned him a trip to Hungary for an elite training experience.

A mixed doubles competition was won by Wong and Mok Chung-pan.

"Teqball as a new sport is a great fit as the tables are not very large," said Lee to the South China Morning Post.

"Hong Kong's space is limited and everyone is looking to touch the ball.

"In a normal football game, people touch the ball a lot less, but in one hour of teqball, players can touch the ball up to 100 times.

"It's very good for practicing skills and control."
