The teenager is already a global force in the sport at just 17-years-old, winning her first World Championship title in the women's singles WH2 four years ago.

She added another two titles at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta before doubling up again at the 2019 World Championships in Basel.

Liu, who lost her legs in a car accident aged four, is being coached by China's Atlanta 1996 Olympic silver medallist Dong Jiong.

"I am still very young so I do not have any special feelings for being considered one of the world's best," said Liu in an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) interview.

"I need to remain humble and keep working hard.

"Every athlete's dream is to win Paralympic gold, that is my goal.

"But I cannot take it for granted just because I have won world titles."

Liu will face competition in Tokyo from the likes of Japan's home hope Yuma Yamazaki and Thailand's Amnouy Wetwithan.

"I met Liu Yutong for the first time in 2015 or 2016 when she was 12-years-old and had just won the Asian title," said Dong to the IPC.

"I can teach her how to cope with the changes during a match based on the experiences I accumulated throughout my career. 

"Apart from guiding her, I also try to support her psychologically."

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics are due to run from August 24 to September 5 after being pushed back a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Taekwondo, as well as badminton, is scheduled to make its debut on the sports programme.
