Top seeds Nour El Sherbini and Mohamed ElShorbagy got their El Gouna International Squash Open campaigns off to flying starts with straight game victories, while there was a shock defeat for Marwan ElShorbagy.

Egypt’s El Sherbini took just 30 minutes to take care of business in her second round clash as she swept aside 19-year-old compatriot Farida Mohamed.

After a tight first game, El Sherbini powered to a 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 victory.

"She’s been giving very tough matches for lots of the top players now," said El Sherbini.

"First round and first time to play her, it was difficult in the beginning but really glad I got back to my game plan in the last two games."

With world number one Ali Farag absent, Mohamed ElShorbagy will hope to seize his opportunity in his home tournament.

ElShorbagy came through his first test as he defeated Scotland’s world number 21 Greg Lobban 11-7, 11-3, 12-10.

He will now face Frenchman Baptiste Masotti who beat American Todd Harrity 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.

Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim cruised to a 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 win over Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng.

Seventh seed Joel Makin will be Ibrahim’s next opponent after the Welshman defeated England’s Adrian Waller 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 in an all-British battle.

Egypt’s sixth seed Fares Dessouky proved too strong for Frenchman Gregory Gaultier with a 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, 11-3 win.

England’s Patrick Rooney also came through in four games, beating Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinmann 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4.

Mostafa Asal continued his run in the competition with a comprehensive 11-2, 11-9, 11-6 victory over India’s Saurav Ghosal.

Mohamed Abouelghar produced the biggest upset of the day as he downed fourth seed Marwan ElShorbagy 8-11, 11-3, 11-13, 11-5, 11-3 to book a meeting with Asal.

In the women’s draw, third seed Camille Serme did not have it all her own way against Belgian Tinne Gilis.

The match lasted 74 minutes before Serme completed a 11-4, 11-13, 12-10, 11-9 triumph to advance to the third round.

Serme will face Canada’s Hollie Naughton who produced a dogged display to defeat India’s Joshna Chinappa 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8.

Adel can look forward to facing world number one El Sherbini after seeing off fellow Egyptian Hana Ramadan 11-8, 11-2, 11-3.

England’s Alison Waters came from a game down to beat Egypt’s Mariam Metwally 5-11, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11 to set up a meeting with compatriot Sarah-Jane Perry who received a walkover after Egyptian Mayar Hany pulled out.

Egypt’s sixth seed Hania El Hammamy beat Wales’ Emily Whitlock 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 and will now face teammate Nada Abbas who overcame Menna Hamed 11-3, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6.
