Hosts France earned two wins on the opening day of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Women's Series in Voiron.

The French side faced Spain and Canada in Pool A action today.

Their team of Marie-Eve Paget, Soana Lucet, Laetitia Guapo and Migna Toure opened the tournament by winning 20-15 against Canada.

Toure top scored with nine points in the match.

She repeated the feat against Spain, scoring 14 points in France’s convincing 22-14 victory.

France topped the standings with consecutive victories, while Spain finished second after winning 19-18 against Canada in their second match.

Second seeds Russia qualified for the quarter-finals as Pool B winners, following a 19-15 victory over Switzerland and a 21-14 triumph over Poland.

Poland secured second place in the pool with a 21-18 win over their Swiss rivals.

The Netherlands earned two comfortable victories in Pool C to top the standings, winning 18-12 against Slovakia before a 22-13 triumph over Mongolia.

Mongolia, who will compete at Tokyo 2020, finished bottom of the pool after suffering an 18-15 loss to Slovakia.

The final group saw Romania emerge as Pool D winners, courtesy of a 19-12 win over Israel and a 21-19 success against the Russian under-25 side.

The Russian under-25 side progressed to the quarter-finals after overcoming Israel 21-16.

The quarter-final line-up will see Russia face their under-25 side, with the winners meeting either the Netherlands or Spain.

France and Slovakia will meet in a quarter-final, while Romania and Poland will go head-to-head.
