Canada remain the only team with a 100 per cent record at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 World Championship as they beat the Czech Republic 10-3 to earn a semi-final meeting with defending champions Sweden in Texas.

Canada’s Connor Bedard scored two goals and provided three assists, including a goal and two assists in the first eleven minutes of the opening period at Children's Health StarCenter in Plano, to keep his side in with a chance of recording the first "perfect gold".

Under the guidance of head coach Dave Barr the team has won every game in regulation, has never trailed, and has never been tied after 0-0.

Sweden progressed thanks to a 5-2 win over the hosts and they now face the team who beat them 12-1 in their group match.

Sweden stunned the hosts in a display that featured two goals from Fabian Lysell and superb goaltending from Carl Lindbom, who stopped 31 of 33 shots.

It was only the fourth Swedish win over in 19 under-18 meetings with the United States, who have thus finished fifth, missing a medal in this Championship for the first time since 2003.

A 5-2 win over Belarus at the Comerica Center in Frisco earned Russia a last-four game against Finland, who beat them 4-3 after a shoot-out in the group stages.

Finland, beaten 5-4 in overtime by the United States, progressed with a 2-0 win over Switzerland.
