Cerezo, making her senior European Championships debut, beat Romania's Liana Musteata 6-3 in the final of the women's under-47 kilograms division on the opening day of the event in the Bulgarian capital.

The Spaniard upset Olympic silver medallist and former European champion Tijana Bogdanović of Serbia in the quarter-finals en route to securing the biggest triumph of her career to date.

She had to fight back to overcome Musteata in the final as the Romanian led 3-2 after the second round.

Spain were denied further glory in the men's under-58kg category as French youngster Cyrian Ravet ousted Adrián Vicente to take gold.

The 18-year-old Frenchman was on the right side of a 21-10 scoreline in a thrilling final as he joined Cerezo in underlining his status as a potential future star.

A third teenager won a gold medal as Lena Stojković of Croatia triumphed in the women's under-46kg division.

Nineteen-year-old Stojković, a Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist, overcame Russia's Larisa Medvedeva 18-10 in the final. 

Omar Salim, now representing Hungary after switching allegiance from the United States, triumphed in the men's under-54kg and was a convincing winner against Greek athlete Dionysios Rapsomanikis in the final.

The score was 31-9 in favour of Salim when the contest was stopped in the third round.

Ravet and Cerezo's victories are particularly significant as they came in Olympic weight categories.
