Chinese Taipei's women's softball side is to lock horns with a men's team as they continue to prepare for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

The national team will take on the Nantou County men's side in a four-game series this weekend.

Head coach Hsin Lin Han has already named a 26-player preliminary squad for next year's Asian Games in the Chinese city, doing so as far back as September 2019.

Chinese Taipei has won eight medals in softball at the Asian Games but the team has a bridesmaid tag as they have never won gold.

They won silver in 2002, 2006, 2014 and 2018, missing out on the top prize on each occasion to Japan.

Bronze medals were claimed in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2010, meaning Chinese Taipei has never missed the podium since the introduction of softball at the Asian Games.

The country is currently ranked sixth in the World Baseball Softball Confederation world rankings but they did not qualify for Tokyo 2020 where the sport is due to return to the Olympic programme.

Baseball and softball at Hangzhou 2022 will be played at the new megacentre venue in Shaoxing.

It is expected to be completed in October and will become the largest facility for the sports in China.

The first 200 fans who attend the matches against Nantou wearing a Chinese Taipei team logo will receive a free breakfast, as part of a promotion surrounding the games.
