Honduras were seeking a fourth consecutive appearance at the Games when they faced the United States, who were looking to secure a first men's Olympic berth since Beijing 2008.

Juan Carlos Obregon gave Honduras the lead in first half stoppage time.

Obregon arrived at the back post to steer in from close range after Denil Maldonado headed Edwin Rodriguez's deep cross back across the six-yard box.

United States' task suffered another setback in the opening minutes of the second half, as an attempted pass by goalkeeper David Ochoa was blocked by Honduras' Luis Palma with the ball rolling into the net.

Jackson Yueill gave the US hope in the 52nd minute after cutting inside and finding the top corner from distance.

The US were unable to find an equaliser in the closing stages to force extra time, however, with Honduras sealing a 2-1 win to advance to Tokyo 2020.

Mexico will hope to match their London 2012 Olympic gold medal success in Tokyo after beating Canada 2-0.

Canada withstood Mexican pressure in the first half, but fell behind when a loose pass from goalkeeper James Pantemis presented Carlos Rodriguez with the ball.

Rodriguez found Uriel Antuna on the edge of the area, with the winger able to slide the ball beyond Pantemis' reach.

Canada fell further behind just after the hour mark.

Mexico's Johan Vásquez headed against the post from a corner, with the ball rebounding into a combination of Vásquez and a Canadian defender before rolling into the net.

Mexico and Honduras will now meet in the tournament final, with the two teams assured of competing at Tokyo 2020.

The teams join Japan, France, Germany, Romania, Spain and New Zealand in the men's field.

The line-up also includes South American giants Argentina and Brazil, African representatives Egypt, Ivory Coast and South Africa and Asian representatives Australia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

The draw will take place on April 21.
