Four players have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics table tennis competition in the women's singles following the conclusion of the first knockout rounds at the World Singles Qualification Tournament in Doha in Qatar.

Held in four separate knockout brackets, the winner of each final would guarantee a spot in Tokyo this year, with the Games scheduled for July 23 to August 8.

The first of these was Dutch world number 28 Britt Eerland, who secured her spot in straight games against Spain's Galia Dvorak 11-5, 12-10, 12-10, 11-7.

Sweden's world number 81 Linda Bergstrom was a comfortable winner in her final, defeating world number 32 Margaryta Pesotska of Ukraine in five games 11-7, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9.

World number 46 Polina Mikhailova of Russia also booked her place after defeating world number 40 Suthasini Sawettabut of Thailand 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8.

Monaco's world number 44 Xiaoxin Yang secured the fourth spot today in a seven-game thriller against Spain's Maria Xiao 14-12, 8-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-3, 9-11, 12-10.

The losing finalists of each of the finals will compete in a second chance knockout round to determine the final female qualifier.

In the men's competition, Czech Republic's Lubomir Jancarik and Ukraine's Lei Kou are set to play tomorrow for the first of three spots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Jancarik shocked Britain's world number 15 Liam Pitchford 11-6, 2-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7, 12-10, while world number 55 Lei defeated Italy's world number 102 Niagol Stoyanov.

In the second knockout bracket final, Belgium's Florent Lambiet and Hungary's Bence Majoros will play each other following respective seven-game thrillers in their semi-finals.

Lambiet bettered Russian world number 185 Vladimir Sidorenko 12-10, 11-7, 8-11, 11-3, 5-11, 9-11, 11-9, while Majoros defeated the man one place above him in the world rankings, Romania's Ovidiu Ionescu by a score of 11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.

The final qualifier tomorrow will either be Greece's Panagiotis Gionis or Slovakia's Yang Wang.

The Greek world number 49 defeated Russia's Kirill Skachkov 5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 18-20, 11-7, 5-11, 11-8 in a seven-game thriller, while world number 34 Yang duly delivered against Hungary's world number 115 Adam Szudi 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7.

The losing finalists and semi-finalists will compete in the second stage tomorrow for the final men's spot.
