Paralympic champions Giacomo Bertagnolli and Anna-Lena Forster were among the winners as slalom competition began at the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup in Veysonnaz.

German Forster had an advantage of 14.46sec over Barbara van Bergen of The Netherlands, who was second in the women's sitting.

Russia's Varvara Voronchikhina picked up a hugely impressive win in the women's standing, edging out the discipline's back-to-back Paralympic champion, Marie Bochet.

Voronchikhina finished 0.76 ahead of Bochet of France, who in turn was 6.32 in front of Germany's Anna-Maria Rieder in third.

Austria's Veronika Aigner was the victor in the women's visually-impaired category.

Italian Bertagnolli dominated the men's equivalent and was victorious by 5.44 in the end, with Slovakia's Jakub Krako second.

France's Arthur Bauchet won the men's standing.

Norway's Jesper Pedersen won the men's sitting, but only just.

Dutch Paralympic super combined champion Jeroen Kampschreur was just 0.26 off the pace.

Another set of slalom races is scheduled on the last day of competition at the Swiss resort tomorrow.
