CBDU has been awarded BRL6.7 million (£911,000/$1.3 million/€1.01 million) through the Special Secretariat for Sport and Ministry of Citizenship.

"We are happy to increase the resources for the CBDU because we know that they will have a very big impact, even more so in an Olympic year," said Fabiola Molina, national secretary for sport, education, leisure and social inclusion.

"Athletes will have the security of knowing that they will be able to participate in the competition and plan ahead.

"This will certainly be fundamental to have better results.

"This is a key age group and, with more resources, we can encourage athletes to even study more.

"I think this is also a stimulus to education in the country through this resource made available for them to represent Brazil - we are closing the gaps that exist."

Molina competed in two editions of the Universiade in 1995 and 1997, winning silver in the women's 100 metres backstroke.

"This commitment will give us 100 per cent of conditions to prepare the best team in Brazil of all time to play in the University World Games," said President of the CBDU, Luciano Cabral.

"The resource ensures that we can take the full delegation so that Brazil has its best participation in the event's history."

Brazil are expected to take around 150 to 160 athletes, as well as technicians, assistants, physiotherapists and doctors.

Chengdu 2021 is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 29 2021 in China.

There is set to be 269 events across 18 sports at the Games, which is set to attract around 10,000 athletes.

Brazil achieved its best performance at a Universiade in Naples in Italy in 2019.

Their team of 116 athletes won five gold, three silver and nine bronze medals, finishing 13th on the medal table.

At the 2017 Universiade, Brazil won two gold, four silver and six bronze medals.
