The Qatar Olympic Committee has published a calendar of sporting events the country is hosting in 2021.

The calendar lists 63 sporting events et to take place in Qatar this year, including a number of high-profile international competitions.

This includes the Olympic qualifying event for the singles table tennis contest at Tokyo 2020.

The FIFA Club World Cup is set to be held in Doha from February 1 to 11, with the Confederation of African Football Super Cup final also scheduled for February 1.

Qatar is scheduled to host men's qualifiers for the Australian Open tennis this month, Beach Volleyball World Tour events in February and March, and an Artistic Gymnastics World Cup from March 10 to 13.

A Diamond League athletics meeting is then scheduled for May 28.

On a continental level, Qatar is due to host the International Basketball Federation Asia Cup from February 18 to 21 and the Asian Table Tennis Championships from September 1 to 10.

The newly-released calendar also includes a number of local events, such as the National Sport Day on February 9.

Qatar hosted a number of sporting events in late 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the cancellation or postponement of numerous competitions around the world.

This included the successful staging of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League Final with around 8,500 fans in attendance.

Organising a COVID-19-secure sporting event with a high number international athletes may be more difficult, however.

In total, Qatar has reported more than 144,600 cases of coronavirus and 245 deaths.

Next year, 2022, promises to be a big one for Qatari sport, with the county due to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

It also won the right to stage the 2030 Asian Games last month.
