Olsbu Røiseland, a double silver medallist at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, incurred two penalties but powered clear to claim her first individual win of the season in 29min 04.6sec in the Austrian town.

Despite not missing any targets, Belarusian Dzinara Alimbekava - who won yesterday’s sprint - had to settle for second place as she finished 13.9sec back.

France’s Julia Simon overcame three penalties to power through the last loop and finish third, 17.8 behind Røiseland.

"I felt really good today," said Røiseland, who was also part of the team that won the women’s 4x6km relay yesterday.

"Already in the first round, my skis were just fantastic.

"I just have to thank the wax men and the wax team today.

"It was amazing."

Sebastian Samuelsson led Sweden to victory in the 4x7.5km relay as they overcame Norway and Germany.

The Swedish team, which also included Peppe Femling, Jesper Nelin and Martin Ponsiluoma, secured top spot with a time of 1 hour 16min 31.5sec and eight spare rounds.

Norway were 5.7 back in second with 11 spares and one penalty, and Germany were 44.1 further behind in third with seven spares.

Heading into the crucial final standing stage, Samuelsson came up against Norwegian rival Johannes Thingnes Bø.

Samuelsson fumbled loading his spare rounds to lose previous time, but responded to hit the fifth target just after Bø missed.

That gave Samuelsson a 16.6sec lead with 2.5km left to ski and he did not let up on the last loop as he secured his team victory.

"It was very tough," Samuelsson said.

"I enjoyed coming in with Norway.

"This time I wanted to put some pressure on, so I wanted to shoot very fast.

"Then I had some mistakes, so I tried to cool down.

"I was trembling a lot, but then I heard he had a penalty."

Bø leads the overall standings with 296 points ahead of Samuelsson and Quentin Fillon Maillet of France.

The women's overall leaderboard is headed by Røiseland, with Alimbekava in second and Hanna Öberg of Sweden in third.

The IBU Biathlon World Cup is set to resume in Hochfilzen from December 17 to 20, with the men and women taking part in sprint, pursuit and mass start competitions.
