Camille Serme eased past Melissa Alves to reach the second round of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Black Ball Squash Open in Cairo.

Third seed Serme was the victor in the all-French affair, triumphing 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 at the Black Ball Sporting Club.

She is set to face Belgium's Tinne Gilis in the second round of the PSA World Tour Gold event.

Gills had progressed after English opponent Millie Tomlinson was forced to retire during their match, citing a flare up of a persistent Achilles problem. 

Egyptian second seed Nouran Gohar battled against compatriot Farida Mohamed to eventually win 9-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 16-14. 

England's Sarah Jane Perry also endured a five game match, beating Emily Whitlock of Wales 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 11-13, 11-9.

Gohar is due to play Alison Waters of England and Perry will meet India's Joshna Chinappa.

Waters had comfortably beaten Egyptian wildcard Menna Nasser 11-4, 11-5, 11-3, while Chinappa got past Julianne Courtice of England 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 12-10.

Canada's Hollie Naughton secured a shock win against 13th seed Rowan Elaraby, with the Egyptian losing 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7. 

Naughton will next come up against New Zealand seventh seed Joelle King, an 11-6, 11-6, 4-11, 5-11, 11-8 winner against Australia's Donna Lobban. 

Round two is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
