It is hoped the new organisation will help promote talented track and field athletes and bring them through to the top level.

Potential star performers could be discovered through talent scouts, the organisation said, and then specifically promoted.

Work to form the organisation has been ongoing since 2018 and its founding means support for Para-athletics has been "institutionally and sustainably strengthened", it is claimed.

"Para-athletics is becoming increasingly important in Germany," said the organisation's chairman Eike Dörzbach.

"It is therefore good that the promotion of young athletes can now develop decisively."

Niko Kappel and Heinrich Popow, who are Paralympic gold medallists in the shot put and 100 metres respectively, played key roles in launching the organisation and are founding members.

"Right now we have to think about our offspring," said Popow. 

"Sport has given me a lot, so it's incredibly important to be able to give something back. 

"Many talents cannot develop without good and professional support."
