The Council made the decision to award the 2021 edition to the Japan Para Badminton Federation, with the country's bid defeating Badminton Peru.

Badminton Association of Thailand won the 2023 edition over Badminton Canada.

"A thorough process was undertaken to evaluate the bids against the criteria, and following bid presentations on Monday, the BWF Council discussed at length the merits of each bid before coming to a decision," read a BWF statement.

"It was clear that all bids would serve to benefit Para-badminton athletes and further the development of Para-badminton globally.

"However, the BWF Council determined that Japan and Thailand provided the best, most sustainable framework to deliver the highest standard of tournament possible, and ultimately, the best athlete experience."

The BWF also thanked Badminton Canada and Badminton Peru for their applications and stated that both countries still remain important destinations for future events.

Japan is scheduled to host the 13th edition of the tournament, which was first held in 1998 in Amersfoot in The Netherlands.

Basel in Switzerland hosted the Championships last time in 2019, while South Korea hosted the Championships for the second time in 2017, this time in Ulsan.

Japan has never hosted the Para Badminton World Championships before, while Thailand will host its second tournament following the 2007 competition in Bangkok.

Badminton is due to make its Paralympic debut at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Games next year.
