The tournament took place from October 27 to 31, and was part of the QOC's "Sport for Life" community engagement strategy, which encourages people to live more active and healthier lifestyles.

Sport for Life is now an important part of Qatar's bid for the Asian Games in 2030, where the Gulf Nation comes head-to-head with fierce political rival Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh and Doha have both submitted bids for the Games, with previous interest coming from the likes of Uzbekistan and India, but neither nation entered a bid prior to the deadline.

"Now more than ever, sport has a major role to play in inspiring hope and positivity," said Doha 2030 chief executive and QOC secretary-general, Jassim Bin Rashid Al Buenain.

"The QOC Padel Tournament is just one small way we can support our communities by giving them the chance to stay active through practising sport in a COVID-19 secure environment.

"This is crucial not just for physical well-being but for mental well-being as well.

"We are fortunate to have so many existing world-class sports venues in Qatar which makes it possible to deliver these opportunities in a safe way.

"Ensuring that these facilities benefit Qatar and the region from now until 2030 and beyond, is a central pillar of our bid to host the Asian Games.

"We are focused on using the Games to deliver benefits to Asian sport and serving as a gateway to a brighter future for Asia."

Al Sadd Sports Club indoor hall could host billiards at the 2030 Games if the Doha bid is successful.

Padel, similar to tennis, is one of the proposed sports on the Doha 2030 Games programme.

The sport has grown in popularity in Qatar, with over 150 teams and 300 participants competing in the tournament.
