The Bolton-born fighter has been advised by his doctor to take a three-month rest, to heal the injury in his right shoulder, and will miss the Games, which are due to open in Guangzhou on November 12.

"His [Haroon] doctor told him to take rest for three months, after the diagnosis of his right shoulder injury, where his muscle tissues has been damaged," said Akram Khan, the secretary of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF). 

"Haroon informed me that he will not be able to participate in the Asian Games for obvious reasons."

Akram admitted  that the news of the injury came as a blow for the federation - expecting another impressive show from Haroon, who chose to compete for Pakistan after being overlooked by Britain.

"Yes, after his brilliant performance in the Commonwealth Games where he won a bronze medal, we were hoping for another medal winning performance in Asian Games.

"However, sometimes it happens to players that they are forced to quit from some major competitions because of injuries."
