The International Skating Union (ISU) has paid tribute to former judge and international referee Simonetta Spalluto, who has died aged 65.

Spalluto served as an ice dance judge and referee at numerous international competitions, including the World Figure Skating Championships.

She was also the personal assistant to the ISU President Ottavio Cinquanta from 2006 to 2016. 

During her career, Spalluto was involved in the organisation of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games and World Figure Skating Championships in Milan.

Away from skating, Spalluto was an active volunteer in a pediatric hospital.

"She will be remembered fondly for her energetic demeanor, kindness, and professionalism," an ISU statement said.

"The ISU pays tribute to Simonetta Spalluto and will remember her with affection."
