Panam Sports President Neven Ilic is set to be re-elected unopposed at the organisation's General Assembly later this year.

The Chilean, who has led the organisation since 2017, faces no challengers for his post.

The General Assembly was due to be staged in coastal Mexican city Cancún on December 15 and 16 - there has been no official word yet on whether it will be an in-person or online gathering, given the coronavirus pandemic.

Before becoming Panam Sports President, Ilic led the Chilean Olympic Committee for more than a decade.

His tenure has Panam Sports President has included the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which he described as "the greatest Pan American Games in history".

Santiago, capital of Ilic's native Chile, is set to host the 2023 edition of the event.

Running for re-election unopposed is a stark contrast to the tight campaign in 2017 which ultimately ended in Ilic being elected head of the continental organisation.

Ilic finished tied for second place following the first round of voting, but won a run-off versus Brazilian Carlos Nuzman to advance to the final round.

The Chilean then defeated Joaquín Puello of the Dominican Republic by just one vote to become President.

He has been an International Olympic Committee member since September 2017.
