Men's top seed Ali Farag and women's second seed Nour El Sherbini took the titles on finals day at the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Egyptian Open in Cairo.

Both finals were contested by two sets of Egyptian players, with Farag up against third seed Tarek Momen and El Sherbini up against top seed Nouran Gohar.

The matches were played on the Glass Court in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza, and both were settled in straight games.

The women's final was up first and El Sherbini registered a quickfire win in 37 minutes in three games - 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.

Victory for El Sherbini was her second in as many years in this event, and the win saw her climb to number one in the women's world rankings.

El Sherbini was on top throughout the encounter, with the crucial moment coming in the second game as she reeled off four straight points from 9-7 down to take the game 11-9.

Once El Sherbini took the first six points of the third game there was no way back for Gohar.

El Sherbini described her victory as "unbelievable" and added she was "over the moon" to win on home turf for a second time.

Next up was the men's final with Farag producing a dominant display to win in three games in 48 minutes - 11-8, 11-3, 11-4.

His impressive victory saw Farag climb to top spot in the world rankings, although his opponent Momen seemed to be struggling with fatigue after two five game wins in the last two rounds of the tournament.

Although the first twelve points of the match were shared, Farag pulled away and sealed victory at the Egyptian Open at the third attempt.

After the match, Farag said he was "pretty emotional" and said it was an "amazing feeling" to take victory.
