The German University Sports Federation (ADH), along with its healthcare partner Die Techniker, hosted a virtual celebration of International Day of University Sport (IDUS).

Those involved were asked to walk, run or climb as far as they could in the space of an hour.

Some 473 students, university staff and alumni from 70 ADH member universities took part in the inaugural event.

As a collective they covered 4,354 kilometres.

Technical University of Dortmund's Hendrik Pfeiffer covered the most distance - 17.48km.

Narrowly behind was Alexander Hirschhäuser from the Philipps University of Marburg, who covered 17.47km.

Philipp Reinhardt from the University of Jena was third, running 16.90km.

The leading female participant was Lea Weike from the University of Paderborn, covering a distance of 14.92km.

Carmen Godel of the University of Konstanz ran 13.94km for second and Anna-Lena Stockmeier from the University of Paderborn was third on 13.31km.

"At this first nationwide event and facing restrictions imposed by the pandemic, 473 participants are a good basis for further developing the format," said Jörg Förster, chairman of the ADH Board.

"On behalf of the participants and the organisers, I would like to thank our partners who supported this competition with attractive prizes."

The University of Göttingen secured the overall victory, with 44 active runners.

The Technical University of Dortmund was second thanks to 31 runners, followed by the Technical University of Clausthal with 27.
