Billy Hodge_YouTubeDecember 17 - An aspiring young Paralympian is to meet two of his heroes next week after his homework project was posted on YouTube.

Billy Hodge, a nine-year-old, who suffers from hemiplegia, a neurological condition that affects one side of the body, will make a visit Leominster Leisure Centre next Tuesday (December 20) to meet Paralympic swimming heroes Sascha and Nyree Kindred.

Hodge created the short video modelled on Channel 4's "That Paralympic Show" as part of a homework project with the help of UK charity HemiHelp, who provide support for children with hemiplegia and their families.

The youngster from Wigan explains to the camera that he would like to compete in the 2020 Paralympic games when he is 18 and goes on to demonstrate some of the sports that he might like to compete in, including swimming, athletics, archery, cycling, equestrian, judo, football, rowing and shooting.

The video was also sent to Channel 4 and the "That Paralympic Show" production company Boomerang, prompting an invitation from the firm to a filming of the show where he met the show's presenters, including Paralympic wheelchair basketball bronze medallist Ade Adepitan.

Hodge also received a message from Channel 4 newscaster Jon Snow who said he was "inspired" by the video while nother message of support came from Canadian snowboarder Tyler Mosher.

Hodge currently attends swimming lessons in his hometown of Wigan and his parents are keen to provide support and encouragement whichever sport he chooses.

"Billy has always loved sport and we've always encouraged him to get involved as it is really good therapy for him," said Heather Hodge, his mother.

"Like every nine-year-old boy he loves to swim and play football. We plan to encourage Billy along the way, whatever he chooses to do.

"There are also a lot of good role models in sport which is really good for Billy, as it gives him someone to look up to."

Sascha and Nyree Kindred are just two of these role models and they will be keen to share their tips for success with Hodge when they swim with him in Leominster.

Nyree Kindred, Sacha's wife, who has won nine Paralympic medals, including two gold, is also looking forward to the chance to encourage Hodge.

"I loved his YouTube video and I hope he achieves his goal of one day winning Paralympic gold," she said.

"Swimming is a fantastic activity and is something that anyone of any level can take part in. It has meant so much to me and it really changed my life.

"It means a lot to all of us that kids like Billy are inspired by our achievements at the Paralympics and I know that their cheering will keep us going at the Games next year."
