Pedro Rangel_celebrating_Parapan_gold_medal_November_15_2011November 15 - Another 11 Games records were set on the second day of the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara with the hosts taking five gold medals to add to the two won on the opening day.


In the first race of the day Pedro Rangel (pictured)surged to victory to record Mexico's first gold medal of the day in the men's 100 metres breaststroke SB5, setting a record in the process – 1min 36:23sec.

Another record was broken in the breaststroke SB6 when Colombia's Nelson Crispin swam to victory in 1:32:59.

The United States took three gold medals during the day, with Reilly Boyt winning the women's 100m breaststroke SB6, Anna Johannes taking the 100m breaststroke SB8 in a Games record time, 1:27:14, and Haley Beranbaum in the women's 200m individual medley SM5.

In the men's 100m breaststroke SB8, Carlos Lopes Maciel of Brazil defeated home contender Luis Andrade Guillen, and compatriot Andre Brasil set another record – 1:17:21 – in the men's 100m breaststroke SB9.

Daniela Gimenez secured a gold for Argentina in the women's 100m breaststroke SB9, while Genezi Andrade took another gold for Brazil in the men's 50m freestyle S3.

Mexico was back in the medal hunt with a gold in the men's 50m freestyle S4 thanks to a record breaking swim from Gustavo Sanchez – 40.29 – while Patricia Valle also set a record in 1:01:06 in the women's 50m freestyle S3.

Venezuela also claimed gold with Alberto Vera Moran winning the men's 200m freestyle S14 in a time of 2:10:13, while in the women's version of the same event Canada bagged gold through Kirstie Kasko.

Carlos Farrenberg of Brazil set another record with a time of 25.19 in the men's 50m freestyle S13, and Daniel Giraldo Correa also broke the next record time in the men's 50m freestyle S12, in 26.28.

Belkys Mota secured another gold for Venezuela in the women's 50m freestyle S12, and Cuba's sole gold medal of the day came from Yunerki Ortega in the men's 50m freestyle S11.

Luis Andrade Guillen gave more reason for the home crowd to cheer with victory in the men's 50m freestyle S8 and Vianney Trejo rounded off the day with Mexico's final medal of the day with victory in the women's 200m individual medley SM6.
