The 27-year-old from London won gold in the adaptive men's arms and shoulders single sculls at the World Championships on Lake Bled on Slovenia to retain his world title and earning a qualification spot for London 2012.

Despite the result, it was no major surprise as Aggar has never been beaten in competitive action and he boasts a gold medal for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic and now four World Championship titles.

Aggar is joined on the shortlist by Allison Jones of the United States, who retained world titles in both the C2 Road Race and Time Trial events at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Roskilde, Denmark.

Mark Rohan of Ireland also starred at the competition in Denmark and makes the Athlete of the Month shortlist after winning gold medals in both the H1 handcycling Road Race and Time Trial.

The trio are joined on the shortlist by Great Britain's men's wheelchair basketball team and Germany's women's wheelchair basketball team who both claimed gold at the European Championships in Nazareth in Israel.

Britain won their first European Championship since 1995 by defeating Germany's men in the finals while Germany's won took victory in Israel by beating in the final.

The public has until midnight on October 6 to decide on who they think had the best performance last month and can vote on the IPC's Facebook page.

The winner will follow Australian swimming star Ellie Cole who won the August Athlete of the Month by claiming six gold medals at Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.
