The webinar featured 50 coaches, athletes and representatives from sambo federations across the continent and was organised in partnership with the African Sambo Confederation.

"At the webinar we focused on current recommendations related to the worldwide coronavirus crisis and presented a few tips to avoid the spread of the virus within the Sambo community to achieve our common goal to return on the mats in coming weeks," said FIAS anti-doping manager Kamila Vokoun Hajkova.

Following the next two webinars with representatives from federations across Africa, the educational project will continue across other continents.

The online learning programmes were created in May to enable FIAS to continue its educational work during the lockdown enforced by the pandemic, with doping prevention, athlete safety and health protection among the topics focused on during the sessions.

"Clean sport should be strengthened and promoted even during a period when we are not able to engage in face-to-face learning activities during sambo events," said Vokoun Hajkova.

"FIAS’s will is to demonstrate its continued support for athletes and their support personnel in these difficult times. 

"We must honour their rights and keep them connected to the sporting community despite the challenges of COVID-19."

All FIAS sanctioned international tournaments are currently postponed until further notice due to the pandemic.
