International University Sports Federation (FISU) has announced the University World Cup 3x3 Trick Shot Challenge as the organisation’s latest virtual activity during the shutdown in sport due to the coronavirus.

The latest activity follows on from the University World Cup Football Team Challenge, which concluded on May 31.

The challenge brought together the final eight teams from the University World Cup Football tournament in November in Jinjiang in China.

In a "replay" from the competition, it asked members of eight university football teams to show off their skills, and fans were then able to vote for their favourites on FISU's Instagram page.

Autonomous University of Mexico State were crowned champions of the virtual event.

The trick shot challenge idea came from FISU athlete Sara Meden, who had recently taken over the organisation’s Instagram account during the #FitAtHome campaign.

Meden produced a trick shot on Instagram, provoking the idea.

"During the quarantine, we tried different trick challenges at my basketball club," Meden said.

"One of them was to make a trick shot.

"It wasn't so easy.

"Because I needed a good assistant – my dad – who had to repeatedly get the ball after the missed shots and pass it back to me through the window on the first floor."

FISU say they are inviting video entries from university basketball players and enthusiasts.

Entrants must be university students and/or should have participated in a previous FISU event.

All entries must be sent to [email protected] with the key words "Trick Shot Challenge" before June 10.

Video clips must not be longer than 60 seconds and the entry must be accompanied by the full name, Instagram handle, university and field of study of the participant.

The challenge will be launched on FISU’s social media channels on June 15.
