It followed the ICF's two previous English-language seminars which focused on nations from Africa as well as Oceania, and an event with Spanish-speaking countries which attracted more than 100 people.

The Portuguese course was run by the ICF's head of classification, Fatima Fernandes, as well as Portugal's national Para-canoe coach, Ivo Quendera.

Angolan Para-canoe athlete representative Josemar Andrade was also present.

The series of online lessons aims to give participants an understanding of the basics of undertaking athlete classification, which categorises Para-athletes based on the degree of their disability.

It also gives potential officials key contacts to speak to in neighbouring countries, for advice and cooperation.

John Edwards, chair of the ICF Paracanoe Committee, said: "This was another fantastic course with lots of interested participants, lots of questions, and a real connection established with this important Para-canoe community.

"Congratulations to Fatima and Ivo and to everyone who took part.

"Our webinars are proving very popular, and we have plans for more in the future."

Materials from the sessions are also available on ICF's Para-canoe page in English, Spanish and Portuguese. 

They will be translated into several other languages including Hungarian, Japanese, Persian, German, French and Polish.
