The International Ski Federation (FIS) held an online coordination group meeting with the organisers of the 2023 Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships, which will take place in Bakuriani in Georgia.

Bakuriani 2023 hosted its first major coordination group meeting, with stakeholders taking part online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The call mainly focused on the logistics and sport facilities required for the event, with organisers presenting the preliminary concept which is set to be optimised in the upcoming months.

It will be the first time Georgia holds an FIS World Championship, with organisers due to gain technical knowledge from previous hosts through the transfer of knowledge programme.

Skiing is an emerging sport in Georgia.

The capital city of Tbilisi was scheduled to hold its first FIS World Cup event during the 2019-2020 season, but the contest was cancelled, however.

Bakuriani was announced as the 2023 Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships host in May 2018.

The country has also applied to host the 2025 Youth Olympic Winter Festival.
