Uluru is one of six locations suggested by Baseball Australia for their inaugural Baseball5 National Championship this year.

Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock, is a symbol of the Australian outback and is sacred to indigenous Australians.

It has been suggested along with five other iconic locations for the first Australian Baseball5 National Championship, tentatively scheduled from July 17 to 19.

Baseball Australia made the suggestions to encourage potential hosting bids.

The other locations were Hosier Lane in Melbourne, Tha Lookout on Mount Coot in Brisbane, Perisher ski resort in the Snowy Mountains, Taronga Zoo in Sydney and Glenelg Beach in Adelaide.

"There is potential that our first major event could be held in front of Uluru," said Baseball Australia following an expression of interest from the Northern Territory Baseball Association.

"At 348 metres high it towers over the landscape and generates a powerful presence.

"Uluru is also steeped in cultural significance worth learning about while you are there."

Baseball5 is a five-on-five street version of baseball and softball, proposed in 2018 to develop the sport.

The Australian Baseball5 National Championship may be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, however, which has forced the cancellation of the majority of sporting events up until August.

There are more than 6,400 cases of coronavirus in Australia, with 63 people dying.

Restrictive measures have been put in place in the country in an attempt to contain the virus.
